The novel «American Tragedy» by Theodore Dreiser is one of the best works of American literature of the 20th century; it has not lost its modernity and relevance today. And if for some reason you have not yet had time to read this outstanding book or watch the film of the same name with the incomparable Elizabeth Taylor in the title role, be sure to listen to the audio version of this novel and see for yourself. A short plot of the book: a young man Clyde Griffiths from a poor family of street preachers has been dreaming of breaking out of the world of poverty and despondency all his adult life. At one of the parties, Clyde meets a young girl — who turns out to be the daughter of a wealthy manufacturer. This meeting gives him a unique chance — to turn his life one hundred and eighty degrees, but Clyde is burdened by a long-standing love affair with another girl who, moreover, is expecting a child from him … Love or wealth. Family or freedom. The young man has a difficult choice to make.
