The Demidovs is the first book of the Stone Belt trilogy by the famous Russian writer Yevgeny Fedorov. In the center of the story is the emergence of Russian industry in the Urals. The time was turbulent: they were preparing for a war with Turetchina, schismatics rebelled, landowners’ gravitators were leaving from unbearable serfdom, people were fleeing from terrible recruitment, from voivodship oppression and from the extortion of nettle seed — commanding yarges. The tsar, in his quest for the sea, actually saw how poor Russia was in factories and plants. Meanwhile, the country had everything to increase production, to develop mining business. And so Pyotr Alekseevich decided to welcome the Tula Demidov to the Verkhoturye Iron Works on the Neiva River with all the buildings, artisans and workers. The Tulyak was allowed to search for ore and mine it in other places of the Stone Belt. It was allowed to build new factories on the Neiva; for factory work, it was allowed to buy people and take them to the Urals. So that the little people would not be lazy, Demidov was allowed at his own discretion, without trial, to punish the negligent for laziness and transgressions. So, thanks to the royal patronage, the Demidovs became the owners of unlimited power over the entire Stone Belt — the Urals.
Don’t miss Evgeny Fedorov’s new audiobook «Stone Belt». We are sure it will be of interest to everyone who is not indifferent to the history of our country, the history of the Russian state, the history of the birth of Russian industry.
