A cult novel about the determination to confront the difficulties that all American teenagers have been reading for over a century.
Francie Nolan sees the world differently — she notices good and bad, knows that life is full of injustice, but at the same time full of good people. She goes to the library every day for a new book and reads it sitting on the fire balcony in the shade of a huge tree. And almost everyone thinks she is weird. Francie’s family lives in a poor area of Brooklyn, and all the neighbors know that the Nolans cannot do without dramas. Father, Johnny, is an incredibly handsome man, the son of Irish immigrants, works as a singing waiter and often drinks, so mother, Katie, has to work for two to feed the family. Moreover, gossip is fueled by sister Katie, Sissy’s aunt, who gets married faster than divorces her husbands. But at the same time, the Nolan house is full of love, and everyone is happy, despite the difficult life. Each of them believes that tomorrow will be better, but understands that he can withstand any attacks of fate. Why do they have such confidence? To understand this, you need to get to know each member of the family.
