«Another Great Myth» by Robert Asprin is the standard of the genre of humorous fantasy.
No, this is not Game of Thrones, although dragons are traded here even in the market; this is not «The Lord of the Rings», although magic and sorcery is here at every turn; and this is not the «Hulk», which will certainly never keep up with the charm of the local green monster …
Parody? Oh yeah!
Drawing (always punishable) parallels and analogies, we can say so. If The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was written in the fantasy genre, it would be called Another Great Myth. And if Jim Abrahams decided to film the latter, we would get … Well, let’s say, «Hotheads of Middle-earth.»
This book is for you if you:
— you regret that A.P. Chekhov did not try himself in the field of fantasy
— reading about the next heroes cutting their way out of trouble with swords, you understand that you would have gotten out of the situation much more gracefully
— think that the amount of chaos and nonsense makes the story more entertaining
— heard that Rob Asprin died with a book by Terry Prachet in his hands, and you suspect that from boredom
— you want to develop in yourself a love of reading, but you will strengthen the madness of hard knicks, including multibukafs and many stages, like her — philology!
This book is unlikely for you if you:
— you regret that L.N. Tolstoy did not try himself in the field of fantasy
— reading about the next heroes cutting their way out of trouble with swords, you understand that you would have slashed everyone much more gracefully
— think that the story should be absolutely clear and logical
— heard that Rob Asprin died with a book by Terry Prachet in his hands, and you suspect that from laughter
— do not like light pocketbooks, in which there is no depth at all, and generally do not consider entertainment reading as literature.
