The action of the novel «Club Dumas, or Shadow of Richelieu» takes place in a special world — the world of books. The heroes of this story are bibliophiles, second-hand booksellers, bookbinders and simply passionate lovers of literature. Some of them prefer the novels «cloak and sword», others — detectives, still others try to unravel the secrets hidden in the works of demonology. The main character, Dean Corso, is a book hunter. He looks for them in private collections, buys them, resells them. One of the bibliophiles hired him to help determine the authenticity of the unique editions of the 17th century — «The Book of Nine Gates to the Kingdom of Shadows.» The value of these books is that there are only three surviving copies in the world catalogs. However, a simple assignment turns out to be big trouble for Corso.

By the way, «The Dumas Club or Richelieu’s Shadow» is one of Boris Akunin’s ten favorite detectives!
