Leonid Yuzefovich «The Harlequin Costume» is the first novel from a detective trilogy about the famous Petersburg detective of the 19th century Ivan Putilin.
The head of the St. Petersburg detective police, Ivan Putilin, retires and settles in the estate on the banks of the Volkhov. He decides to publish his memoirs, and invites the writer Safronov to record and process his stories. The first case that Putilin talks about is the assassination of the Austrian military attaché Prince von Arensberg. The number of suspects is growing, an international scandal is brewing. The killer turns out to be the one who did not even suspect about the murder …
Leonid Yuzefovich took the plot about the murder of von Arensberg from the memoirs of the historical ID Putilin «Forty Years Among Robbers and Murderers», which were published in 1893 by a publisher named Safonov, who in the novel turned into Safronov.
This historical detective story will be of interest to both specialists in the history of the XIX century, and simply lovers of this exciting genre.
