Jacob’s Ladder is a parable novel, a fancifully branched family chronicle with many heroes and a filigree plot. In the center of the novel are the parallel fates of Yakov Osetsky, a man of the book and an intellectual born at the end of the 19th century, and his granddaughter Nora, a theater artist, a self-willed and active personality. Their «acquaintance» took place at the beginning of the 21st century, when Nora read the correspondence between Yakov and Maria’s grandmother and received access to his personal file in the KGB archives …
The novel is based on letters from the author’s personal archive.
