15 years after the death of Kir Bulychev, a classic of Russian science fiction, we recall one of his most famous novels — «The Village».
The Polyus spacecraft crashed in the mountains on an unknown planet. Fleeing from radiation from the damaged engine, the surviving crew members with their children were forced to hastily leave through the pass into the valley. There they founded a small village. After 17 years of hard struggle for survival in a foreign aggressive biosphere, out of 40 people, only twelve adults survived, and thirteen more children were born in the village. The small colony, which has no connection with the rest of civilization, is threatened with inevitable degradation and extinction: adults grow old and lose hope, and children are already more like Mowgli; some of them no longer believe in the Earth story. And then people decide to equip the next, already the third expedition, this time from among the grown children — Oleg, Maryana, Dick and adult Thomas to the spaceship, in the hope that the radiation has already decreased, and the supplies from the ship will help the colony …
