Mitch Albom (b. 1958) is a renowned American writer, journalist, screenwriter, playwright, radio and television presenter and musician, whose books have sold over 39 million copies worldwide. Tuesdays with Morrie (1997) is a chronicle of the author’s weekly meetings with his former sociology professor, 78-year-old Morrie Schwartz, who is dying of an incurable disease. Every Tuesday, Mitch traveled from Michigan to Massachusetts and had detailed conversations with Morrie about life and death, about love and friendship, about true and false values. Trying to find a way to pay Morrie’s medical bills, Mitch decided to publish a book about these meetings. Published initially in a small print run, «Tuesdays …», thanks to the mention of Oprah Winfrey on the show, entered the New York Times bestseller list, and then took the top line in it for a long time. Republished many times and translated into more than 40 languages, Albom’s book in 1999 became the literary basis for the film of the same name, starring Jack Lemmon as Morrie (Emmy Award) and Hank Azaria as Mitch.
