About the product Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin (1862-1911) is one of those personalities of Russian history, whose accomplishments, even after centuries, continue to arouse deep interest and arouse controversy, because they never manage to give a «final» assessment. Taking the post of Minister of Internal Affairs in 1905 on the direct order of the Tsar Emperor, Stolypin daily, until his tragic end, performed a great, titanic, daily feat to save Russia — a feat that lasted around the clock for five years and four months — almost two thousand days. The complexity of his position can hardly be overestimated. For the first year and a half, he was forced to fight all sorts of extremists, terrorists and revolutionaries. The struggle was not for life, but to the death, but the main thing: it diverted time and energy from the main task — the reorganization of Russia. And then there were reforms. And every undertaking was met with resistance. The reform of the peasant community, conceived by the government, ran into misunderstanding both in the peasant environment itself and on the part of large landowners. Bureaucracy, corrupted by bribery and irresponsibility, how could sabotage the transformation. The public — the best part of it that foresaw the catastrophe and was horrified by it — did not in any way identify with the power. Many wanted to save Russia — only a few were ready to save the throne. In essence, the mild-mannered tsar was forced to seek support in extremely chauvinistic circles. And all talented and state-minded people either lacked will, or responsibility, or devotion. Everyone wanted to be citizens, no longer wanted to remain subjects, but had not yet learned to be decent people. At the right moment, Russia lacked the necessary «human material»: there were more destroyers than builders. Under these conditions, the work conceived and partially implemented by PA Stolypin and his associates is truly grandiose. Interrupted by his death and the outbreak of the World War soon, the reform could really save the empire. Stolypin was absolutely right: the reform of Russia was impossible without peasant reform. He did not have enough life for this. Several years of peace were not enough for Russia to get out of the crisis. The exit was visible — and the country was moving towards it.
